Emotions and Feelings
Teaching the Use of Characters' Feelings
As a Reading Comprehension Strategy
Matilda Gilbert

This song is available on Read About It, Sing About It:
Reading Comprehension Strategy Songs.

If you want to know
How a character feels
Here’s what you do now --
It’s really no big deal

What did the character Say?
How did he Act?
What did he Think?
Now you got the facts.

If you want to remember,
Just keep this under your hat.
Just remember this word -- SAT.
(What did the character Say?)
(How did he Act?)
(What did he Think?)

The character may tell us
How he really feels
What he actually does
Lets us know the real deal

The author lets us inside,
I inside the character’s head.
Put it all together
And true emotions are what we have.

If you want to know
How a character feels
Here’s what you do now --
it’s really no big deal

What did the character say?
How did he act?
What did he think?
Now you got the facts!
