Let’s go down to the cattail diner
Where the food is fresh and couldn’t be finer.
Selections are good, now don’t you know,
to the Cattail Diner, away we ago.
As I was walkin’ to the wetland wonder
I saw some cattails over yonder.
A blackbird callin’ Oo-ka-lee,
inviting me to have a seat.
I took my seat on a floating log,
near a painted turtle and an old bullfrog.
A whirligig danced across the lake,
to clean my table for my dinner date.

A damselfly, she flew right over.
She said with a smile, “Can I take your order?”
“I don’t know, what ya got today.”
“We got cattail biscuits and carp soufflé’.”
“I’m not sure, I think I’ll try something new,
How about watercress salad and tadpole stew.”
“And an order of frog legs on the side.”
Then the bullfrogs’s eyes, they open wide.

A diving beetle took my order down,
to a fat crayfish who was cookin’ around.
He was choppin’, stirrin’, and flippin’ the meals.
Cookin’ up a winner, a real hot deal.
When the meal was done they brought it right up,
garnished so nice with a buttercup.
They served the food on a lily pad
with spearmint tea, the best I’ve had.
A great blue heron, a water snake, a muskrat and a mallard drake,
All were eaten their favorite dish,
the smile on their face told me it was delish!
